Flu (Rewharewha)

Date: 24 Mar 2025

Why Flu Shots Matter

Flu (Rewharewha) is a leading cause of hospitalisation and death in Aotearoa.

Rewharewha is more than just a cold – it spreads quickly, and can be especially dangerous for tamariki, kaumātua, and pregnant wāhine, leading to serious complications. It can cause pneumonia and other complications.

That’s why it’s so important we protect ourselves and those we love. A flu shot is a simple way to reduce the risk for everyone in your whānau.

Are You or Your Whānau At Risk?

Getting your flu vaccine can help protect your most vulnerable whānau members.
Flu spreads easily, but by getting vaccinated, you’re reducing the risk for everyone around you, including those most at risk like kaumātua, pregnant wāhine, and tamariki.

Did You Know the Flu Changes Every Year?

The flu is a virus that mutates regularly, so the flu vaccine is updated annually to protect against the most common strains.

Getting the flu vaccine every year is the best way to reduce your risk of severe illness, complications like pneumonia, or even death. It’s your best defence against the latest version of the flu, helping you stay protected and keep your whānau safe.

Free Flu Shots – Who’s Eligible?

Free flu vaccines are available for:
